The aim of this study is to examine the development of Late Modern English from the viewpoint of “word formation.” My linguistic material is focused on to the epistolary novels written by Samuel Richardson who, I assume, must have been innovative in creating new words, and thus could have influenced female writers of succeeding generations. I have proved this assumption, partly by analyzing the lexical structure of specific examples, and partly by comparing his works with those of his contemporary writers, particularly of female writers.

本研究旨在从构词法的角度考察晚期现代英语的发展。我的语言材料集中在塞缪尔·理查森写的书信体小说上，我认为，他一定在创造新词方面有所创新，因此可能影响了后代的女性作家。我已经证明了这一假设，部分通过分析具体例子的词汇结构，部分通过比较他的作品与他同时代的作家，特别是女性作家。
