Systemic circulation affects circulation condition of flaps and Arrhythmia is supposed to be a great risk factor during flap surgery, however, little is known about its relation. In order to investigate the influences of arrhythmia on flaps, we developed aconitine-induced atrial fibrillation model in rats without artificial respirator.Acconitine was injected into the tip of right atrial appendage trough pleural membrane. The intra-arterial blood pressure monitored with femoral artery cannulation. Yariable pulse wave was appeared with Af, but blood pressure was stable.Using this Af model without ventricular arrhythmia, we investigate influences of Af on two representative properties of flap surgeries. Survival area of pedicled flap, and survival rate of free flap.For comparison of survival area of pedicled flap with or without Af, traditionally used rat ventral Superficial Inferior Epigastric(SIE) flap(2×13cm) was used. Survival area of flap was measured 7 day after the elevation of flap. For comparison of survival rate of free flap with or without Af, smaller sized SIE flap(2×2cm) was employed. Flap survival was confirmed 7 days after operation.Average survival area of pedicled flap in Af animals(58.1±9.7%) was lower than that in controls animals(72.6±12.3%) significantly(p<0.01, Student's t-test). Average survival rate of free flap in Af animals(40%) was lower than that in controls animals(80%)(p=0.07, chi-square test).
