目的:公立小学校における担任教師による外国語(英語)活動の実施を間近に控え、「小学校教員が児童の発音指導に肯定的である程度は、自らの発音を適切であると認識している程度に関係があり、自らの発音能力の向上を実感すれば、児童の発音指導に肯定的である程度も向上するであろう」という仮説を検証した。手続き:計149名の公立小学校教諭に対して研修扱いで2時間の発音講習を/1/と/r/および英語のリズムに焦点を置いて実施した。その前後で同一の課題文を録音してもらい、かつ発音指導に関するビリーフおよび自分自身の発音をどの程度適切だと認識しているかを質問紙によって探った。録音については年齢・性別を統制してから無作為抽出した50名分を、10名の母語話者に/1/、/r/、リズムの適切度に関して評定してもらった。以上のデータからラッシュ・モデリングにより「発音指導肯定度」「自己認識発音適切度」「ネイティブ評定発音適切度」の3つの変量を創出し相関分析を行った。結果:「自己認識発音適切度」が高いほど「発音指導肯定度」が高い、という弱いながらも有意な正の相関があったが、「ネイティブ評定発音適切度」と「発音指導肯定度」の間にはほとんど関係は見いだせなかった。また2時間の講習によって「自己認識発音適切度」「発音指導肯定度」ともに有意に高まったが、「ネイティブ評定発音適切度」には向上が見られなかった。さらに「自己認識発音適切度」と「ネイティブ評定発音適切度」の向上の程度は、年齢層が上がるにしたがって小さくなる、という関係が見られた。示唆:短時間の講習等によって自己認識発音適切度を向上することは十分に可能であり、それは発音指導に対してより積極的になるが、ネイティブが明らかに認識できる程度に技能が向上するには継続的な努力が必要であろう。また参加者の年齢が高くなると、必要となる努力の量も多くなることが示唆された。
