In this study cultural texts in a high school textbook used in Japan were analyzed critically using Critical Discourse Analysis. Questions and activities for critical reading were developed based on the results of the analyses and provided to students in the process of action research. Also investigated were the ways in which teachers dealt with culture in English textbooks and students read them. The findings show practical implications for developing a pedagogy for critical reading.

本研究运用批判语篇分析法对日本高中教科书中的文化文本进行批判性分析。批判性阅读的问题和活动是根据分析结果制定的，并在行动研究的过程中提供给学生。此外，还调查了教师在英语教科书中处理文化的方式以及学生阅读这些教科书的方式。研究结果显示了发展批判性阅读教学法的实际意义。
