This study focused on development of coal industry in the 1930s1950s, while interregional comparisons between areas Kyushu and Hokkaido. It presented a quite different aspect about labor market of the coalmining industry between Hokkaido and Kyushu in the prewar period. There is this for differences such as a scale of a coal mine, relations with a local community, development of the mechanization. About the coal mining industry in the 1950s, I showed a new point at issue about an underproduction by a labor dispute, and the electricity use in a coal mine.

本研究以1930 ~ 1950年代的煤炭工业发展为中心，对九州和北海道地区进行区域间比较。在战前的北海道和九州，煤炭开采业的劳动力市场呈现出截然不同的面貌。存在这种差异，如煤矿的规模，与当地社区的关系，机械化的发展。关于20世纪50年代的煤炭开采业，我提出了一个新的争论点，关于劳动纠纷造成的生产不足，以及煤矿的电力使用。
