Development of Multimedia Materials to Improve the Pronunciation of English of Elementary School Teachers from the Perspective of Accuracy and Intelligibility

本研究的目的是分析日本教育专业的英语教师在发音时，哪些语音特征会影响发音的准确性。利用这些结果，我们开发了多媒体教材，以提高他们的英语。通过作者的判断和声学分析，所有的单词和句子的发音，日本学生被转录成国际音标符号，表明他们的英语的准确性。至于可理解性，母语为英语的人评估了单词和句子的可理解程度。以下语音特征发音不正确：（a）/l/和/r/区分，（B），（B）摩擦音替换，（c）摩擦音发音弱，（d）塞音没有送气，（e）元音长度不正确，（f）单词，短语的重音错误，（g）单调的节奏。在这些特征中，（a）（c）（d）（e）（f）会影响清晰度。

This research aims to analyze which phonological features of English pronounced by Japanese students, who majored in Education to be English teachers, are pronounced incorrectly and affect intelligibility. By using these results, we developed multimedia pedagogical materials to improve their English. Through being judged by the authors and being used with acoustic analysis, all the words and sentences pronounced by the Japanese students were transcribed into IPA symbols indicating the accuracy of their English. As for intelligibility, native English speakers evaluated how much the words and sentences were understandable. The following phonological features were pronounced incorrectly:(a) /l/ and /r/ distinction,b,(b) fricative substitutions, (c) weak pronunciation of fricatives, (d) no aspiration of plosives, (e) incorrect vowel length, (f) the wrong stress on words, phrases, (g) monotonous rhythm. Among these features, (a)(c)(d)(e)(f) would affect intelligibility.
