项目摘要

本研究の目的は自由民主主義社会におけるアリストテレスの徳倫理学の意義を明らかにすることである。本年度の実施計画は教育論の面でアリストテレスの意義を再検討することである。この目的を達成するために主に以下の研究を実施した。第一に本研究は1990年代からはじまる英国の市民科教育の改革においてアリストテレスの「市民の徳」の概念がどのように利用されているかについて調査した。アリストテレスの教育論は英国のクリック・レポートにおいて有名なように、政治に積極的に参加する能動的市民像を提供してくれる理論として市民的共和主義の文脈でよく言及される。これに対して本研究は、市民的共和主義のアリストテレス理解はとても魅力的なものであるが、市民として受動の経験を持つことや市民の徳の涵養が教育の中心的位置を占めていることなど、アリストテレスの教育論の意義が十分に捉えられていないことを明らかにした。第二に、自由主義社会の教育で価値について客観的に議論を交わす方策を検討するために、アリストテレスの倫理学の方法論を検討した。アリストテレスの倫理学の方法論は古代ギリシアの対話問答法に影響を受けていると言われるが、本研究は対話問答法の利点を検討することによって、アリストテレスの倫理学の方法論の意義、例えば人々の信念に内在的に議論を展開できること、異なる理論同士の競合として道徳理論の発展を捉えられることなどを明らかにした。さらに本研究はこのようなアリストテレスの方法論が、現代アメリカ自由主義の理論家ジョン・ロールズの「反照的均衡」という道徳哲学の方法論に影響を与えていることを確認し、アリストテレスの倫理学の方法論は現代社会においても価値について客観的に議論を交わす重要な方法論であることを明らかにした。
