本研究の目的はアリストテレスの生物学の視点を社会規範の説明に利用する際の意義と問題点について検討することである。本年度は主に以下の二つの作業を行なった。アリストテレスは生物学の知見に基づいて人間を政治的動物として理解したが、本研究ではこれまであまり着目されてこなかった気概（thumos）という能力に着目して彼の人間理解を分析した。『ニコマコス倫理学』第５、８、９巻や『政治学』第１、７巻を検証し、気概は勇気に関わり、応報として互恵性を維持し、人を愛する能力であることが判明し、アリストテレスはそうした気概を市民の要件として重要視していることを明らかにした。そしてアジア的隷従は気概のなさに基づいていると認識され、この認識がその後の西洋思想史に大きな影響力を発揮したことが分かった。この点については英語論文を執筆し、Oxford Handbook of Ancient Greek Political Thoughtの一部として提出し、査読中である。また日本に対するアリストテレスの影響の一例として和辻哲郎の『ポリス的人間の倫理学』を取り上げ、アリストテレス倫理学・政治学がどのように利用されているかを調査した。和辻は生態環境と人間の倫理の相互影響関係を強調するが、本研究では、和辻が農業と国土と国民国家の結びつきを前提としていることに着目し、和辻が古代ギリシア以来の西洋倫理思想史を解釈する視点として農業優位論を想定していることを明らかにした。農業優位論の観点で社会を理解する視点はアリストテレスにも含まれており、農業に対する狩猟社会の優位に着目する近年の文化人類学的視点も活用しながら、農業優位の社会規範を相対化した。この点については英語論文を執筆し、論文集の一章として査読審査中である。
