项目摘要

本年度は、山陵考証家谷森善臣・疋田棟隆らの稿本類や著作を収集・分析し、幕末維新期の考証家による陵墓考証をめぐる諸動向を考察した。また、明治・大正期の陵墓管理の実態について分析を進めた。陵墓考証については、拙著『幕末維新期の陵墓と社会』(思文閣出版、2012年)やその後の研究で取り組んできた幕末期の陵墓考証・治定をめぐる動向を、桓武天皇陵を例に検討した。桓武天皇陵は、豊臣秀吉の伏見城築城で破壊されたため、その治定は幕末から近代にくすぶり続ける。そうした中で、中世の伏見を描いたとされる近世の偽絵図「伏見古図」が幕末期の考証家疋田棟隆によって発見され、明治期の桓武陵治定を度々揺るがせることになる。最終的には、幕末期に治定された箇所で確定されるものの、現治定地とは異なる、偽絵図に描かれた桓武陵の地は、陵墓の疑いを捨てきれないとして、現在に至るまで陵墓参考地として管理されていることを解明した。また、偽絵図「伏見古図」も宮内省が史料としての価値を認めたため、権威を有するようになり、戦後の中世史研究や地域史叙述でも活用され、多大の影響を与え続けている。こうした検討結果は、「桓武天皇陵の治定と「伏見古図」」として成稿し、『史敏』11号(史敏刊行会、2013年7月)として公表した。一方、明治・大正期の陵墓管理については、一部目録化できた河内国丹北郡島泉村(現・大阪府羽曳野市)の吉村家文書を分析した。吉村家は、簿冊型の当該史料の細目録化によって、各年の陵墓管理のサイクルや実態が浮かび上がってきた。それによれば、すでに明治中期には、陵墓管理は極めてシステマティックに行われるようになり、管理者の官僚化が進行していた。また、近世天皇家の菩提寺泉涌寺の調査を開始し、その成果の一部を2014年6月に「陵墓と朝廷権威―幕末維新期の泉涌寺御陵衛士の検討から―」(『歴史評論』771号)として公表する予定である。
