私は18世紀フランスにおける映像と音の保存概念を研究テーマとしており、平成24年度はとくに、クラヴサンの演奏の録音・再生を目的とした、音楽の保存技術を主な分析対象に取り上げた。一般に録音・再生技術の嗜矢とされるのは、19世紀後半に発表される蓄音機であり、それ以前の状況は詳しくは知られていない。しかしながらそのおよそ100年前の18世紀半ばにはすでに様々な構想が世に問われており、技術者や哲学者らによって、新技術のはらむ倫理的、美学的問題に関して示唆に富む考察がなされていた。本研究では、当時の雑誌記事や科学論文等の資料を手がかりに、実際の発明品だけでなく、構想の段階にあるものや想像上の装置も考察対象とし、新技術が芸術と切り結ぶ関係の諸相を描き出す作業を行っている。具体的には、マリ=ドミニク=ジョゼフ・アングラメルの発明を中心に、ドゥニ・ディドロ、フランソワ・ガティらの構想を取り扱い、次のような考察を行った。自らの演奏を正確に再現する技術の登場に、音楽家らはどのような反応を示したのか。また、音楽の聴き方はどのように変容すると考えられたのか。今日では、音楽をはじめあらゆる文化的事象の複製は日常的に行われ、複製技術は私たちの生活に深く浸透している。本研究では、18世紀という、この技術の黎明期における社会の諸問題を掘り起こすことにより、現代の状況を相対的に見直し、今日の様々な問題への手がかりを提示することを目標としている。
