项目摘要

本研究は、ドイツ・ゴシックにおける聖母マリアの表象、およびその女性性について、13世紀の聖堂彫刻の表現を対象として、当時の聖母マリア崇拝において重要であった花嫁神秘主義の主要原典である、旧約聖書の『雅歌』の思想的背景から考察するものである。とくにバンベルク大聖堂の13世紀の彫刻群を主な研究対象として、『雅歌』の花嫁神秘主義をめぐる思想的・図像的背景、彫刻群の礼拝や祝祭における役割、また、それらの鑑賞法や観者との関係を考察することによって、表現内容の全体像の解明を試みる。本2014年度には、バンベルク大聖堂彫刻群のイメージ・プログラムを考察するにあたり、堂内の彫刻群のみならず、「君侯の門」などの扉口における彫刻群の図像プログラムについて、『黙示録』やエクレシアとシナゴーグの主題における花嫁神秘主義、および、11世紀の《バンベルク雅歌注解》などのバンベルク大聖堂宝物における表現との関連から詳しく考察した。また、在外調査では、旧バンベルク大聖堂付属神学校図書館であったバンベルク国立図書館などにおいて、13世紀に当聖堂で行われていた礼拝と彫刻群との関係性の問題について、主に中世の写本史料を調査するとともに、当聖堂の礼拝や聖堂建築を専門とする現地の研究者たちと面談し、指導をうけるなど、彫刻群を一連のイメージ・プログラムとして考察する際に必要となる、当時の鑑賞の状況のさまざまな関連事項について、情報収集しながら考察を深めた。
