项目摘要

今年度は、西洋キリスト教世界において、中世をとおして旧約聖書の『雅歌』への註解を中心に展開された花嫁神秘主義の思想が、神学や典礼、礼拝のなかで形成されてきた聖母マリアや教会の女性擬人像であるエクレシアのキリストの花嫁としての人格とどのように関わってきたかという問題にとくに着目して研究を進めた。そのうえで、このような花嫁神秘主義の神学的議論における聖母マリア像が、教会にみられる聖母マリア崇敬の図像といった視覚的表象のイメージにどのように影響したかについて詳しく考察した。とくに12世紀から15世紀にかけて顕著にみられる、聖母子像のアトリビュートや身振りにおける抱擁や接吻などの愛の表現をはじめとして、聖堂彫刻や祈念像、祭壇画、写本挿絵に表された「天上の女王」かつ「教会エクレシア」としての聖母マリアの特性を顕著に示した「聖母の死」、「聖母戴冠」などの教会の最大の栄光の主題や、婚礼の場面描写とアイリス、無花果、オリーブ、椋欄、薔薇、百合、林檎などの花や果物、植物の表現にくわえて、修道女の作品に代表される聖母マリアに倣った「女性の霊性」の『雅歌』表現などをそのような観点から調査した。昨年度まではドイツの作例を中心に資料を収集してきたが、今年度は、アメリカのニューヨーク・モーガン図書館などにおいて、13世紀のフランスの作例をはじめとした『雅歌』の写本挿絵などについても詳しい現物の調査を行うことができた。
