1)スーフィズムが有する理念と実践の乖離にするにかんする研究2010年に行われた大統領選挙、2011年の南スーダンの分離独立を問う国民投票、2012年に発生したサラフィー主義者との衝突を事例に、スーダンのスーフィーたちが理念と現実の間で揺れ動く過程を明らかにした。寛容や平和を自らのアイデンティティとして意識し、それを公にアピールしているにもかかわらず、スーダンの政治的状況との関わりにおいては、イスラームと非イスラーム、さらには「真の」イスラームと「偽の」イスラームとを明確に選別し、自らを前者に位置付ける。すなわち、現実の主張では排他的な思想が強調されてしまっており、スーフィーが自身を取り巻く政治的・社会的状況の中で自己矛盾に陥ってしまっている状況を指摘した。2)スーフィズムの倫理的側面にかんする研究先行研究において現代スーフィズムが有する倫理的側面が強調されてきたものの、それに対する実証的な研究は少なかった。本研究ではスーダンの代表的なタリーカのひとつであるカーディリー・アラキー教団を事例に、スーフィズムの倫理的側面をタリーカにおける規律と結びつけて考察した。同教団の論理において、スーフィズムは個人を律する側面と、社会との関わりを規定する側面の二面性を有していた。前者は魂の浄化や倫理観の向上、イスラームへの専心を促す論理である。他方、同教団では、他者に対して愛や敬意を持つことや、謙虚に振る舞うことも重要視されていた。「同じ世界に生きている」という意識の下、相互扶助や相互尊重の精神、協調性に代表される社会性を培っていくことが、「人間学」とも形容されるス「フィズムには重要な要素なのである。このスーフィズムの二面性を結びつける上で、倫理と規律は必要不可欠な要素であると結論づけた。
