本研究の目的は二つある。①Talmyが提案した認知言語類型化の要因が本当に認知プロセスによるものかどうかを明らかにする。これを証明するために、具体的に英語母語話者がi)頻繁に衛星化(移動を現す動詞に同じ意味を現す前置詞などを加えること)を生じることii)学習が進めに連れて、衛星化を起こす割合が少なくなることを明らかにする。②Talmyの言語類型化がどのぐらい第二言語の状態変化表現の習得に影響を及ぼすかを明らかにする。これを証明するために、具体的に日本語母語話者と中国語母語話者が英語を学習する際に、どのぐらい自分の母語の表現に沿って英語で表現しようとするか、どのぐらい英語の普段パターンに沿って表現するかを明らかにし、日本語母語話者と中国語母語話者の間の相違点と共通点を明らかにする。以上に述べた目的①を達成するために、第一言語習得の実験を行う必要がある。アメリカに行き、英語母語話者である小学生・中学生・高校生に実験をやってもらう。被験者がどの程度で衛星化を行ったか検討し、統計分析ソフトなどでデータを分析する。得られた結果を基にして、学習が進むにつれて、衛星化が少なくなることを証明する。目的②を達成するために、第二言語習得における言語の理解に関する実験と言語の産出に関する実験を行う。言語の理解に関する実験では短い動画を被験者に見せ、提供される英文が成立するかどうかを判断してもらう。言語の産出に関する実験では、短い動画を被験者に見せ、英語で1文で動画を描写してもらい、被験者はどの程度母語のフレームに沿うか、どの程度英語のフレームを使用するかを検討する。全てのデータを統計分析ソフトなどで分析する。得られた結果を基にして、学習者が自分の母語と異なるタイプを学習する際に、どのぐらい異なるフレーム化を理解・使用することができるかを証明する。
