当該年度の研究実施期間(平成24年4月から9月まで)に、1)本研究の主旨とこれまでの研究成果の概要を第33回国際美術史学会国際会議にて、ポスターと短い口頭発表で発表した。非西欧の文化的造形物が、19世紀末から20世紀前半の西欧の美術館にどのように受け入れられ、展示されたか、という問題を扱った本研究は、とりわけ西洋の芸術という考え方や美術館という制度のあり方の相対化を目指した視点が評価され、会議参加者の内外の研究者から有意義な質問、コメント、情報の提供を受けた。また、2)昨年度にドイツおいて行った資料調査を基に、ジャポニスム学会例会において、フォルクヴァング美術館の初期日本美術コレクションについて研究発表を行った。質疑応答を通じて、イギリス、フランスに端を発するジャポニスムの歴史の終局的段階に当コレクションを位置づける視座を得ることが出来た。これを踏まえ、9月に実施したドイツでの学術調査では、当コレクションの蒐集歴についてさらなる資料調査を行った。その結果、例会発表の時点では看過していた問題、修正が必要な点に気付くとともに、さらに詳しい購入歴を明らかにすることが出来た。3)この調査旅行では、カール-ヴィートと、ヨーロッパでも有数の非西欧美術コレクションであるエドゥアルトーフォン・デア・ハイト・コレクションに関する調査も行った。コレクションの大部分が所蔵されているリートベルグ美術館(スイス、チューリヒ)および同市立公文書館では、ヴィートが1930年代に取り組んだフォン・デア・ハイト・コレクションの総目録作成作業について調査し、30年代のヴィートの活動の一端を明らかにすることができた。ヴィートについてはまた、4)1913年の9ヶ月間に及ぶ彼の日本滞在について、その足跡をたどり、彼の日本体験の内容の一部を明らかにすることができた。今日ほとんど知られていないが当時優れたアジア美術研究者とみなされていたヴィートの活動をまとめる基礎的な調査を遂行することが出来た。
