项目摘要

今年度の研究成果として、主に以下の3つが挙げられる。第一に、昨年度発表した分離脳の意識構造についての問いをさらに追求し、論文という形で結実させた。第二に、マインド・アップローディングという新技術と関連づけながら、自我の問題を新たな角度から論じることを試みた。第三に、現象的意識概念のさらなる探究を行い、意識と倫理の関係について考察することを試みた。第一の成果は、分離脳が実現する意識構造はどのようなものであるのかという問題を、当該分野における現段階での最新の研究動向を踏まえて議論を鳥瞰しつつ、より妥当な仮説を提案したものである。これまで提案されてきた主な意識モデルのいずれもが不十分であり、報告者はむしろ時間の経過とともに分離脳が実現する意識状態は変化するのだという相転移説を提案した。第二の成果として、マインド・アップローディングという(近未来の)技術に即して自我概念を考察した。どのような形のアップローディングならば自我の通時的同一性が担保されるのか、明確な答えを出すことはできなかったが、アップローディングの提起する自我の問題について、今後さらに考察を深めるべきだという暫定的結論に至った。第三の成果は、現象的意識の持つ倫理的含意を、意識障害に即して探ったものである。報告者は、とりわけ遷延性植物状態患者(PVS患者)に着目し、彼らが現象的意識を持っているのか、持っているのだとしたらその事実はどのような倫理的含意を持つのかを明らかにしようと考えた。これを達成するため、N・リーヴィとJ・サヴアレスキュによる近年の議論を明確化し、彼らのなした論証が妥当なものであるかを検討した
