项目摘要

前年度までに完成させた『視覃雑記』の翻刻をもとに、第53代泉涌寺長老の先白善叙について研究を行った。先白善叙（1437～1510）は同時代史料である三条西実隆の日記『実隆公記』に頻出する僧侶であり、実隆に近付くことで雲龍院住持に就き、立場を活かして天皇の御受戒師となり、またそれを足がかりに新善光寺・安楽光院・悲田院を兼帯して、ついに泉涌寺長老に着任した。先白善叙は前任者である仁甫善悌が「見蓮上人門徒」であることを理由として、泉涌寺長老に就任する妨害をおこない、仁甫善悌を支持した賢等という僧を「寺領横領の悪僧」であると告発している。賢等の横領の話は三条西実隆を通じて後柏原天皇にも伝わり、彼が横領した寺領が泉涌寺ならびに雲龍院のものであることを記した綸旨が出されるまでに至った（雲龍院文書）。同じく後柏原天皇は、泉涌寺に対する「不義の子細」により、「見蓮上人門徒」の本寺である長福寺に対して門徒解散命令も出している（雲龍院文書）。これまでの研究から、「見蓮上人門徒」は武家勢力を味方につけ、泉涌寺を凌ぐ勢いを持っていたことを明らかにしてきたが、上記のことから、一方の泉涌寺の方では、彼らが長老職になることを阻止し、公家・天皇家を味方につけることで、泉涌寺を「見蓮上人門徒」から守ろうとする動きがあったことが新たに明らかになった。これについては口頭発表のみで、いまだ論文化できていないが、近年中に論文化する予定である。また報告書を年度末に発行して3年間の成果をまとめた。当時流入してきた海外の思想潮流からの影響について考察するには至らなかったが、本研究は中世後期日本の戒律研究の実態を明らかにするのみに留まらない成果を出すに至り、「宗」というものを超えて、横断的に仏教が学ばれる当時の環境を明らかにできた。その成果の一部は、真宗連合学会木辺派門主奨励賞を受賞した。
