Emotional numbing, or lack of emotional response, is a core problem in many clinical disorders. This project represents an innovative approach by using hypnosis to model emotional numbing in the laboratory and to investigate the mechanisms and effects of emotional numbing under experimental conditions. These studies will shed new light on the major factors that contribute to this form of emotional disorder, will lead to a new model of emotional numbing, and will have significant implications for our understanding and management of disordered emotional states.
