The characteristic of mucosal T cells in eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis

Eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (ECRS) generally exhibits a high degree of sinus tissue eosinophilia and recurrence often occurs even after surgical therapy. However, the cause has not yet been fully clarified.To elucidate the pathogenesis of this refractory disease, we isolated nasal polyp mononuclear cells (NPMCs) and CD4+ T cells from NP tissues obtained from patients with CRSwNP and determined the characteristics of tissue CD4+ T cells in nasal polyps (NPs).IL-5 and IL-9 mRNA in local CD4+ T cells were significantly elevated in patients with eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (ECRS) compared to those with non-eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (NECRS). Most infiltrated CD4+ T cells in ECRS and NECRS expressed CD45RO and CD69.Infiltrated CD4+ T cells with increased expression of IL-17RB and ST2 play important roles in the pathogenesis of Th2-skewed chronic inflammation in NPs.
