本研究の目的はバングラデシュの農村部を対象として、九州大学芸術工学研究院環境デザイン部門における生活環境圏デザイン手法を用いて、貧困層の農民が自然環境、社会環境からのストレスに対するレジリエンスを高めるための生活環境モデルをデザインすることにある。研究の対象はバングラデシュ南東部のコックスバザール県に位置するテクナフ半島である。テクナフ半島はミャンマーと国境を接し、ミャンマーからの３０万人ともいわれる難民が押し寄せている場所でもある。この地域は肥沃なデルタ地帯で知られるバングラデシュの他の地域と異なり、アラカン山脈の最西南端の低い丘陵を主とし、沖積地がないため農地は狭く人民は貧しい。そのような恵まれない自然環境で生活する農民がより安定的な生活を継続的維持できるための生活環境モデルの形成を目指すことを目的としている。２７年度は２回の現地調査とそれに基づくデータ分析を実施するとともに、九州大学において「ベンガル・セミナー」として継続的にセミナーを開催した（２７年度９回）。調査は８月及び１月にバングラデシュ南東部のテクナフ半島を対象にして実施し、昨年度の調査により選定された地区・農家の住居に付属する形式の屋敷林の生産量の実態を明らかにすることを目的とした。分析の結果、バングラデシュにおける屋敷林が樹林、穀物、家畜等に基づく多様な生態系を有する環境を形成すると同時に、家計の安定的収入の一部を担う農産物の生産の単位であり、将来的にはこれを基礎とした持続可能な生活環境デザインが可能であることが示唆された。九州大学で開催するセミナーは月１回のペースで27年度は合計9回開催した。このセミナーでは、研究内容の紹介をするとともに、環境デザイン部門をはじめ国内外の研究者を講師とし、生活環境圏デザインについて話題を提供し、それに関する討議を行った。
