项目摘要

ヒュームの懐疑論を彼自身の哲学の中でいかに位置づけるべきか」というヒューム解釈上の大問題に答えるため、本研究はヒュームの懐疑論を「自然主義的な懐疑論」と位置づけ、それが彼の人間本性探求のプロジェクト全体の中でいかなる役割を果たしているかを明らかにすることを目指した。本年度は、上記の「自然主義的な懐疑論」を「科学方法論」と結びつけて理解することで、その内実を明らかにし、その役割を同定する研究を遂行した。具体的には、我々が無反省にうちに用いている日常的な自然探求の方法と、方法論的な反省を経て洗練された、自然科学の実験的方法論を区別した上で、ヒュームの懐疑論が、無反省な日常的方法を前提した上で、その妥当性に疑問符をつきつけることで、日常的な方法に対する方法論的な洗練の必要性を指摘し、結果として、より洗練された方法論の構築の契機になるという役割を果たしていることを明らかにした。これは従来無かった新解釈であり、所属する大学院の通常セミナーや夏期特別セミナーにおいて、受入れ研究者等の専門家の討議に付され高い評価を得た。またヒュームの専門家である犬飼由美子教授（マサチューセッツ大学）の英語セミナーに参加し、同教授の指導の下、上記の着想を英語論文としてとりまとめ国際雑誌に投稿する準備を進めた。さらに所属大学の海外派遣プログラムに選ばれて参加し、シンガポール国立大学に二週間滞在し、多数の英語セミナーに参加しつつ（現代の自然主義の専門家や近世哲学史の専門家を含む）同大学の研究者と研究交流を重ねた。また研究発表を行なうべく、国内学会の複数の研究大会に応募し発表の機会を与えられたが、当日体調不良のため、いずれも発表を行なうことができなかった。だが公表された予稿をもとに、国内の専門家と議論をする機会を得て、研究を深めることができた。
