项目摘要

近代世界秩序とグローバル市場経済に包摂され、地理的遠隔性と政治経済的脆弱性に起因する近代性の未達成と在地の論理の部分的な存続によって特徴づけられるオセアニア島嶼地域を対象とする文化人類学的研究は、近代政体と在来の社会組織、近代的土地制度と慣習的土地利用、キリスト教と祖先崇拝などといった諸要素から構成される、複雑な社会文化的混淆性を指摘してきた。そうした研究蓄積は、オセアニア島嶼部におけるグローバルな近代化とは、部分的に受容された近代性と客体化された「伝統」の混淆物として「もう一つの近代」が生成される創造的プロセスであることを明らかにしてきたのである。そうした創造的な混淆性は、同地域の音楽芸能においても認めることができる。ソロモン諸島マライタ島アレアレ地域における竹製パンパイプスを対象とする本研究の目的は、現代メラネシアの音楽芸能をめぐる混淆的な社会関係と越境的な行為の連鎖を追うことで、世界システムの周縁に住まう同地域の人々が近代性とグローバリズムをどのように経験し、同時代的なアクチュアリティをどのように構成しているかを民族誌的に明らかにすることにある。報告者は、そうした問題意識に基づき、かつては贈与交換儀礼に伴う祭宴で演じられ、今日は現金収入を目的として国内外のステージで演奏されるアレアレの竹製パンパイプスを、在地の社会生活とグローバル世界とを仲介する文化的媒体として分析し、その成果を国内外の学術会議や学術雑誌において発表してきた。
