自動車運転中に全く関係のない他の課題に従事することは状況認識の形成や保持を妨害し、重大な事故につながってしまう。状況認識の形成や保持には実行系機能や高次認知機能が重要な役割を有することが指摘されているが、経験者ほどそれらの機能への依存が低く、負担の低い処理方略を採用していると考えられている。本年度は自動車運転に全く関係のない作業を伴った自動車運転時の状況認識について、経験と認知機能への依存に着目して研究を実施した。運転経験の異なる20～60代までの男女を対象として、仮想空間上での運転動画を使用した状況認識の評価課題を課した。昨年度に実施した変化検出課題に加え、状況認識を検出・理解・予測という3つの段階での評価を実施するために、ハザード知覚課題も実施した。この課題も短い動画を観察するが、参加者は最後のシーン内に何か危険だと感じるものや、回避行動をとる必要があるもの（ハザード）があったか否かを回答する。「あった」と回答した場合には、それがどこにあったか、何であったか、この後はどういう展開になると思うか、という質問に回答するよう求めた。20代から60代の変化検出課題の成績には差が認められなかったが、ハザード知覚課題の得点には若・中年者層と60代との間に差が認められ、加齢に伴う成績の低下が認められた。さらに、週当たりの運転頻度が低い参加者のハザード知覚課題得点は視空間的な処理と保持の同時遂行能力が高いほど良いという関係が認められたが、高い参加者には両者の間に関係は認められなかった。さらに、週当たりの運転頻度が低い参加者のみを対象として、運転に他の課題（しりとり）を加えて同様の実験を実施した結果、ハザード検出が妨害される傾向にあった。以上の結果から、経験に伴って状況認識の形成に係る認知的処理は変化を示し、実行系機能をはじめとする高次認知機能への依存が低くなることが明らかになった。
