项目摘要

本研究では、接触場面における母語話者と非母語話者の初対面雑談会話において、話者間の対等性がいかに形成されたり損なわれたりするのかを明らかにするために、①どのような話題を選択するのか、②どのように話題を展開するのか、という観点を用いた。①どのような話題を選択するのかの主な結果として、接触場面では話者の参加経験に関わらず、会話の冒頭でその相違点話題が選択されることが多かった。しかし会話の中盤以降については、参加経験の多い母語話者と非母語話者が共通点話題を選ぶことが多かったのに対して、参加経験の少ない母語話者と非母語話者は、相違点話題を選び続けることが多かった。相違点話題ばかり選択された会話の参加者からは、「個人として仲良くなることはできなかった」「日中の一般的な事情を話し合っただけ」という声も聞かれ、初対面雑談会話で相違点話題ばかり選択することには、注意が喚起された。②どのように話題を展開するのかの主な結果としては、母語話者か非母語話者かに関わらず、参加経験の少ない話者は話し手として、参加経験の多い話者は聞き手として話題に参加することが多かった。つまり、異文化間コミュニケーションに慣れている話者が多く質問しながら、会話の主導権を握っている様子が確認された。ただインタビューからは、「自分の話もしたかったけれど、相手が質問してくれなかった」という旨の語りも聞かれた。両者が対等に会話に参加するためには、どちらかが話し手または聞き手になるのではなく、両者が話し手として、お互いに情報提供し、自己開示を進める必要があるだろう。母語話者同士の会話、及び参加経験の多い母語話者と非母語話者の会話では、そのように両者が話し手として参加することが多く、両者を話し手とするための具体的なストラテジーも観察された。それらのストラテジーは、母語話者と非母語話者に対する教育に応用できる。
