项目摘要

本研究は英語の名詞転換動詞について、コーパスに基づく実証的・理論的研究を行うものである。前年度での研究の成果に基づき、本年度は具体的に次の2点に関し研究を行った。まずケーススタディとして、動物名詞と身体部位名詞に関し、アメリカ英語コーパスのCOCAを使用してデータを収集し、分析を行った。これにより、上記２つの名詞が名詞転換動詞として使用される際には、その表しうる意味が特定のパターンに集約されることが明らかとなった。また、そのパターンは多くが具体的なイベントに基づくものであり、そのイベントについての知識に動機づけられて動詞転換時の意味拡張が生じていることが判明した。これらのケーススタディは本研究の理論を実証的に支持するものであり、また実際の言語使用に依拠した分析であるためその資料的価値も高いと考えられる。2点目は名詞転換動詞の理論化である。本研究はフレーム意味論および概念メトニミー理論、また構文文法に基づき、これら３つを用いて英語名詞転換動詞を構文としてとらえるという理論的提案を行っている。特に、上記のケーススタディでの成果を受け、名詞転換動詞の意味パターンをとらえるメトニミー理論を、特定の出来事の知識領域の中でメトニミー的関係が現れるということをとらえられるように再定式化した。これにより名詞転換動詞のパターン的一般性とその個別出来事知識な動機づけの両面をとらえることが可能となった。従来の研究においても概念メトニミー理論における背景的知識の重要性は指摘されてきたが、本研究ではこれを一歩進めると同時に、メトニミーと背景的知識の関係性をより明らかにした。なお、今年度の研究成果については、2017年の国内学会1件と国際学会1件の計２件の研究発表としてすでに採択済みである。
