本研究は、イサム・ノグチの制作を通して現代の建築風潮「現象的建築」に通じる景観原理を明らかにすることを目的にしている。今年度は特に、1950年代から1960年代におけるノグチの個々の作品分析を行った。その結果、個々の作品に共通する問題意識として、形・大きさ・重さ・素材という物に関する問題、構成・場所・全体としての風景という空間に関する問題、レジャー・大地という場に関する問題があることを明らかにした。また、garden制作における共通問題である物・空間・場に関する各問題の関係性を解釈し、①物・空間・場の問題は制作思想を構成する３層であること、②ノグチの制作思想において、場の層の問題は意識（超越性）の働きであり、物・空間の層の問題は意識に基づき渾然一体となった全体的な風景であること、③ノグチの制作の本質としてgardenに新たな場所性を与え、gardenを通して新たな世界（雰囲気）を拓くという、場の層から物・空間の層へと向かう制作手法であったことを明らかにした。以って建築の一切を空間現象として捉える全一性を「現象的建築」として改めて提示した。加えてノグチの景観制作原理の建築史内での射程を明らかにするため、森田慶一の建築論との比較考察を行い、ノグチの制作思想における意識に基づき一切が現象として表現されるgardenの在り方は、森田慶一の建築論において未展開であった超越性（聖）と全一的様態（現象）の構造の表現であったことを示した。その他アメリカ、カリフォリニア州に現存する２作品「カリフォルニア・シナリオCalifornia scenario(1980-1982)」と「日米文化会館広場Japanese-American Cultural and Community Center Plaza (1980-1983)」の現地視察と資料収集を行った。
