本研究課題は、認知の予備力仮説に基づき、高齢期の余暇活動の実施が認知機能に与える影響を明らかにし、高齢期の認知機能の維持や低下に関連する要因を明らかにすることを目的とした。近年、高齢期の余暇活動の実施が認知機能の低下を抑制することが示唆されている。しかし、多種多様な余暇活動を定量的に評価する方法が確立されていないことから検討は不十分であると指摘されており、現時点で複数の課題が挙げられている。①余暇活動の実施が認知機能に影響を与えるメカニズムが未解明であること、②余暇活動は多面的な活動にも関わらず、実施経験や実施の有無等といった単一の側面でのみとらえられていること、③同じ活動量でも活動内容によって認知機能に与える負荷は異なることが想定されること等である。これらをふまえて、申請者は、①特定の余暇活動のみではなく活動を網羅すること、②活動の内容を多面的に評価することを目的とし、昨年度に引き続き2つの研究を実施した。研究1　高齢期の余暇活動の分類　高齢期に実施されている余暇活動にはどのような種類があるか、69歳から72歳の地域在住高齢者1000名のデータを用いて検討した。その結果、余暇活動は138種類に分類されたことから、高齢期には様々な余暇活動が行われていることが改めて確認された（小園他,2016）。研究2　高齢期の余暇活動評価指標の開発　研究1で挙げられた余暇活動138種類を定量的に評価する指標を作成し、評価指標の信頼性を検討することを目的とした。その結果、138種類の活動ごとに3要素の評定値がつき、評価指標が作成された。信頼性を検討したところ、十分な内的整合性が確認された。このことから、余暇活動を複数の側面から定量的に評価することが可能となった(投稿準備中)。
