本年度は，特に(1)実行機能のどのような要素が反すうに影響しているのか(2)メタ認知と実行機能の交互作用がどのように反すうに影響しているのかについて取り組んだ。第1に，Altamirano et al.（2010）と同様のストループパラダイムを用いて，高反すう者はストループ課題において高い注意制御能力を示すのかどうかを検討した。結果は，Altamirano et al.（2010）と一致して，高反すう者は注意制御能力の指標においてより高い成績を示し，統制条件ではこのような差を示さなかった。この結果は，これまで先行研究で指摘されてきた知見と異なり，高いワーキングメモリ機能が反すうを維持している可能性を示している。さらに，1人の実験参加者に対して複数の課題を同時に測定し，それらの間に共通の因子を構成し反すうとの関連を検討した。ここで，ターゲットとした研究は，研究1から3までの結果を踏まえ，本研究では，ワーキングメモリの更新，短期記憶，および注意制御の3側面について測定できる8つの課題と，反すうとメタ認知的信念の測定を行った。これら複数の課題を180名の大学生・大学院生に実施した。その結果，ワーキングメモリ更新に関わる因子と注意制御に関する因子が反すうの因子に与える直接的な影響を検討したところ，これらに有意な関連はみられなかった。さらに更新能力と反すうに対する肯定的信念（メタ認知的信念）の交互作用を検討したところ，更新能力が低く反すうに対する肯定的信念が高い人ほど反すうが高くなる傾向にあることが明らかとなった。本研究は，反すうは実行機能の低下によって生じるとする一般的な観点とは異なる知見を提出することに成功した。また，本研究における一連の研究結果は，単純に実行機能を改善させようとする介入方法では十分はなく，各実行機能の下位機能間のバランスを最適に保つことが重要であることを示唆している。
