本研究は，感謝感情と負債感情が異なる動機づけプロセスにより向社会的行動を促進し，対人関係の形成・維持・発展に寄与することを表したプロセスモデルの構築を目的としている。実施計画全体の遂行過程において，本年度は，感謝感情と負債感情が対人関係の形成に関わる要因に及ぼす影響とその影響過程の検討に重点を置いた計画を進めるべきだと判断し， 3点の研究を実施した。以下に主要な結果である2点の研究について報告する。第一の研究は，「第三者への向社会的行動」のうち，利益供与者に実行のコストがかかり，実行を敬遠される向社会的行動に着目した。コストのかかる第三者への向社会的行動に対して，感謝感情と負債感情が及ぼす影響を検討する実験室実験であった。実験の結果，感謝感情を強く経験し「すまなさ」である負債感情を弱く経験する条件，および感謝感情も負債感情も共に強く経験する条件は，実行にコストの伴う向社会的行動を促進することが明らかになった。第二の研究は，感謝感情と負債感情が実行コストの異なる向社会的行動に及ぼす影響過程を，制御焦点理論の観点から明らかにすることを目的とした15日間の日誌法による調査であった。調査の結果，感謝感情は，予防焦点動機を介し，翌日の向社会的行動の実行コストへ正の影響を及ぼしていた。負債感情は，促進焦点動機，予防焦点動機のどちらの動機も介さず，直接，翌日の向社会的行動の実行コストへ正の影響を及ぼしていた。2点の研究の結果は，実験や日誌法によって，感謝感情と負債感情が，異なる影響過程を経て，コストの高い向社会的行動を促進することを実証したものである。本研究課題全体の総括につながる有用な知見であり，感謝研究の進展に寄与する知見であるともいえる。得られた研究成果は，国内学会1件，国際学会1件の研究発表，および国内学会におけるワークショップ1件の企画と話題提供，論文投稿（査読中）で報告した。
