项目摘要

本年度は昨年に引き続き、フランス第二帝政期を中心に絵画複製写真が美術史、あるいは写真表現史においてどのような役割を果たしてきたかを中心に研究を進めた。特に、過年度からの研究の成果として、日本写真芸術学会年次大会で「フランス第二帝政期の写真表現に関する考察-絵画複製写真を中心に」を口頭発表したことをまず、研究成果として挙げておきたい。当該口頭発表では、第二帝政期のフランス写真協会展における絵画複製写真の出品割合を分析し、複製写真が単なる「複写」やコピー以上の、表現としての意味合いを担っていた可能性が高かったことや、当時のフランスのアカデミスム美術におけるラファエロの重要性やフランドル美術再評価の動きが複製写真製作の動向と密接に関連したものであったことを指摘した。また今一つの研究実績として、中央公論美術出版より刊行された共著『イメージ製作の場と環境』に論文「アンリ・マティスの写実絵画不要論における写真をめぐって」を発表した。当該論文は、マティスが 20 世紀初頭における写真の役割を単に写実絵画排撃の材料とするだけではなく、フランソワ・ミレーやエドゥアール・マネらによる近代的な絵画表現の確立に複製写真が一定の役割を果たしていたと考えていたことを明らかにすることができた。こうしたマティスと写真の関係については、従来の美術史研究では論じられておらず、絵画複製写真や 19 世紀に一般的であった写真観が近代美術においてどのようなかたちで引き継がれていったのか、その事例を提示することができたと考えている。
