项目摘要

本研究は、15・16世紀の九州における地域権力の動向を検討し、九州地域の特質を理解することで列島の総体的理解に寄与することを目的としている。本年度は昨年度の成果を踏まえつつ（１）大友氏権力中枢構造の分析、（２）大友氏権力と他地域との関係分析の二点に絞って研究をすすめている。（１）については、最近の研究でも見落とされがちな大名の当主の役割に注目して分析をおこなった。昨今、戦国大名とは家臣団の「合議」の権力体であると見なされることが多い。これは、戦国期の戦乱状況を「自然状態」とみなし、戦国大名を領主たちの「社会契約」にもとづいて形成された「国家」ととらえる戦国大名「国家」論のつよい影響を背景に持つものと考えられる。しかしその結果、大名当主の役割についての検討が後景に退いている側面は否めない。よって本年度はとくに大友氏の当主が権力内で果たした役割について再検討を行った。（２）については、大友氏権力研究において必ずしも本国豊後以外の研究が多くないことを踏まえ、本年度は筑後を題材に検討を行った。大友氏は15世紀なかばごろに筑後守護職を安定的に獲得するが、以後も菊池氏との争奪が続き、また大内氏との戦争において侵入を許すこともあった。こうした状況の筑後に、大友氏ははじめ豊後出身の守護被官を筑後に派遣して統治させるが、時期をおうにつれ、担当者の存在が臨時的になり、最終的には担当者を置かない体制へ変化させる。大友氏は、現地筑後において最有力の領主のみと直接やりとりをし、あとは現地での領主間関係を通じて間接的に関係を持つようになる。すなわち、大友氏は筑後を直轄化しようという傾向に乏しいことが明らかになった。この研究については、名古屋大学中世史研究会などで口頭報告を行い、すでに論文化のうえで査読雑誌へ投稿している。
