ネパールにおいてより良い教育が求められる流れの中、また、2015年に同国において発生した大震災からの早急な復興が求められる中、最も教育の恩恵を必要とする社会的弱者の修学実態はいかなる状況にあるのか。本研究は、個々人の縦断的な修学に関するデータから社会的弱者の修学実態を解明し、ポストMDGsへの提言を引き出すことを目的とした。また、研究初年度の分析結果を踏まえて、1）個々の子どもたちの就学フロー、2）教育達成および職業選択に着目することにより、貧困削減に最も有効な手段として期待されてきた教育が真に社会的弱者の貧困脱却に貢献しているのかを検討した。最終年度である平成30年度は、1) 個々の子どもたちの就学フロー、2) 教育達成と職業選択についての研究を実施した。1) については、学校記録のアップデートを行い、震災後における就学フローの経年変化についての分析を進めた。2) については、昨年度構築したデータベースをもとに、フローに乗れる者（私立学校出身者）と取り残される者（公立学校出身者）の職業および収入についての比較分析を実施した。その結果、両者の間には大きな格差が存在することが明らかとなった。男女ともに、同じ教育達成で比較すると、低収入の割合は公立学校出身者の方が高く、高収入の割合は私立学校出身者の方が高かった。特筆すべき点としては、教育達成が高等教育段階の公立学校出身者よりも後期中等教育段階の私立学校出身者の方が、収入が高い傾向にあることである。これまでの研究成果については国内外の学会にて報告を行い、原著論文を査読付きの国際学術誌に投稿し採択された。また、博士論文執筆に注力し学位論文の提出に至った。
