2018年6～9月の100日間，2019年2月の17日間ウランバートルに滞在した．夏の滞在では，昨年度の滞在に引き続きゲル地区居住者宅を訪問しインタビュー調査を実施した．就労に関する事項を中心とし，現在また今までどのような仕事をしてきたか，今後の仕事や生活をどのように考えているか等を聞き取った．昨年度に引き続き訪問ができたことで，この1年における訪問地区の生活環境の変化，また個々の居住者の生活の変化を知ることができた．冬の滞在では，2013年頃より実施されているゲル地区再開発事業について詳細の情報を得ることを目的とし，市役所やJICA等を訪問し，担当者に事業の詳細や現在の状況をインタビューした．今年度の最も大きな成果は，日本地理学会機関誌の地理学評論に論文「ウランバートルにおけるゲル地区の形成と居住者の移住・移動・定着」を投稿し，年度内の受理・掲載に至ったことである．また2017年，2018年に東北大学東北アジア研究センターで実施したシンポジウムの成果を，『近現代モンゴルにおける都市化と伝統的居住の諸相―ウランバートル・ゲル地区にみる住まいの管理と実践』として共同研究者らと出版した．国内外でも多数の学会への参加機会に恵まれた．8月のアルタイ学会では，歴史学，文化人類学の研究者とパネルを組み，トルコからモンゴルに至る地域の遊牧の現代事情を取り上げた．8月と10月にはそれぞれ中国に渡航し，中国地理学会および中日韓地理学会議に発表参加した．11月には人文地理学会大会にて，これまでの現地調査の成果からゲル地区居住者の就労を取り上げ，働くことがこれまで・これからの生活をどうつくっていくかを検討した．2019年3月の日本地理学会春季学術大会では，同年2月の現地調査をもとに，ゲル地区における再開発事業の詳細と，そこから考えられる開発のあり方を展望した．
