项目摘要

中世前期の掛幅縁起絵や高僧絵伝、絵巻物などの画像資料の分析を行い、シンポジウムや学会での口頭発表によって成果を報告した。特に研究期間中に原本調査の機会を得ることができた山梨県立博物館所蔵「法然上人絵伝」二幅と本法寺所蔵「法華経曼荼羅図」については、作画技法に関する研究成果を論文としてまとめる準備を進めた。2015～2018年度に解体修理が実施された山梨県立博物館所蔵「法然上人絵伝」二幅については、修理時に行われなかった蛍光X線分析による顔料調査を所蔵館の保存科学担当者と共同で行い、経過報告を展覧会図録に掲載した。また、本法寺蔵「法華経曼荼羅図」について調査や画像利用の機会を得、粉本の利用状況など作画手法の分析や、絵師の見分けに取り組んだ。モチーフ毎の表現手法や形態比較についての観察結果をシンポジウムにおける口頭発表で報告した他、美術史学会東支部例会における口頭発表では画幅毎の絵師の分類を試みた。発表内容は文章化し、学会誌または書籍等にて公開する予定であり、現在執筆を進めている。モチーフの造形、構図、修辞的技巧は中世絵画の重要な構成要素であり、特に中世前期、新たに出現した掛幅縁起絵には独特の表現技法が多々織り込まれる。本研究では中世掛幅縁起絵の作画技法、特に構図法や下図作成について史料の不足を補うため、作品そのものの観察から制作の手順や画技継承の実態を探った。赤外線写真や高精細画像を活用し、下図線や修正箇所に注目することで、作画工程、粉本の使用状況を分析し、中世前期掛幅縁起絵の原初的な様相について考察を加えることができた。
