项目摘要

建築装飾彫刻の伝統的モチーフである植物、動物、天女などに加えて、説話・故事人物、故事成語のような単なる装飾を超えた精神的な意味づけを持つモチーフが採用されるようになったのは室町末から江戸初期にかけての時期である。この動きは、中央における狩野派などの絵画の制作現場とは異なる位相において展開した、新しい時代を象徴する地方勢力の文化的胎動の一環と目される。したがって、本課題においては、建築・美術史及び文学研究のはざまに位置し、従来学術的な俎上に上ることが殆どなかった建築彫刻の故事説話という領域に説話研究の視座から光を当てることで、近世へつながる過渡的時代における中央と地方の文化的交流と地域性の問題を考えることを目標として掲げた。本年度は本課題の最終年度に当たり、具体的には下記のごとく研究を展開した。①建築装飾彫刻の先進地であった畿内（和歌山中心）における16世紀から17世紀初頭にかけての展開を明らかにするとともに、②建築装飾彫刻という様式が一つのピークを迎えた江戸時代の寛永年間までの展開について、16－7世紀日本の文学、美術、芸能の研究者たちとワークショップや学会などで交流する中で総合的に考察を深めた。③その成果の一部を論文にまとめ投稿した。②については、16世紀末から17世紀にかけての「和」「漢」の故事人物の空間における意匠配置の機能について、当時の人々がいかなる意図のもとにそれらを配置し、またどのようにそれを体験したのか、という視点に立って、多角的に分析し、少なくとも江戸初期までは、「和」「漢」の主題が「私」「公」や「内」「外」を明確に分ける意図が働いていたこと、またそれが当時の多層的な権力や社会構造とも重なりあって多様に働いていたことが見通しとして得られた。今後は江戸時代を通じて、神社仏閣に、『源氏物語』などの日本の説話物語が登場していく現象について考察したいと考えている。
