本研究は，日本語の短縮語形成を制御する音韻的機構の諸相について明らかにすることを目的とする。本研究における２年目の成果は，次の2点にまとめられる。１．基体の音節構造が，短縮語形成に影響する重要な音韻的要因の1つであること。２．「OCP-labial > OCP-coronal, OCP-dorsal」の順にOCP制約が強く働くこと。まず，１つ目の成果について述べる。本研究では，基体の音節構造が短縮語形成に与える影響について，実在語の分析および語形成実験を通して明らかにした。複合語由来の短縮語データベースの中には，前部要素が一定のパターンとして短縮されやすい例も含まれていることから，データに偏りが生じやすい。この問題を解消するためには，音韻条件をコントロールした語形成実験を行う必要がある。実験の結果，初頭2音節がHL（Hは重音節，Lは軽音節）で始まると保持形として短縮されやすい一方で，HHで始まると補完形として短縮されやすいことが明らかになった。本研究から，基体の音節構造が短縮語形成に影響する重要な音韻的要因の1つであるという新たな知見が得られたと言える。次に，２つ目の成果について述べる。複合語由来の短縮語データベースの分析結果により，補完形の形態素境界部に同音連続が生じると，OCP制約の違反を回避するために補完形が出力されにくい傾向が確認された。しかし，数少ない実在語データだけでは説明が不十分であるという点から，音韻条件をコントロールした語形成実験を行った。その結果，「OCP-labial > OCP-coronal, OCP-dorsal」の順にOCP制約が強く働くことが明らかになった。
