项目摘要

採用１年目と同様、石森延男の国語教育理論の特徴と、そのことが国民科国語といかなる関係にあったについて、主として教科書編纂の仕事に注目して考究した。あらたに明らかになったことは、大きくは以下の４点である。第一に、石森が最初に編纂に参与した国語教科書である『満洲補充読本』とのかかわりについてである。このときの石森の仕事は、1930（昭和５）年に植民地主義的な性格が強化されたあらたな編纂方針に即して、『満洲補充読本』を編纂することであった。石森は、児童の身近にある風物を題材にとり、叙情表現を積極的にとりいれ、教材を読みから表現活動へと発展させて児童の能動的な学習を目指すなどの工夫により、教材内容の効率的な内面化を促した。第二に、第４期国定国語教科書への教材寄稿についてである。石森が寄稿した教材の原文は、児童の感性に訴えかけるような内容・表現であったが、教材化の過程で説明文的な性格のものへと修正された。第三に、石森が戦中に文部省に招聘される直前の仕事であった第５期国定国語教科書とのかかわりについてである。石森が文部省に招聘された当時、彼には①国定国語教科書の「満洲」教材の執筆、合科主義に基づく教科横断的な総合的教科書の編纂、③植民地・占領地で使用するための日本語教育用教科書の編纂の三つの役割が期待された。最終的に、その仕事は①に限定され、その仕事を篤実に成し遂げた。第四に、石森が戦後に編纂した第６期国定国語教科書とのかかわりについてである。戦後「墨ぬり」の実務を担当し、暫定教科書の編纂を経て、第６期国定国語教科書を成立させた。同書に収録された教材のうち、半数以上を石森が執筆しており、その影響と貢献は甚大であった。同書は教科書編纂上とくに作文教材や演劇教材などの児童の表現活動が重視されたほか、画一的な道徳観に基づく思想形成としての国語教育という視点を内包して成立した。
