项目摘要

本研究課題の主眼は、奈良関係の古文書・聖教のうち東大寺や個人が所蔵する未整理資料について、悉皆的な調査研究を実施して資料を保存・公開・活用する道筋を開き、かつ、南都の寺社と、寺社を中心として発達した社会を、総体として理解することを目指すことにある。2020年度の事業は、新型コロナウィルスの感染拡大による影響に伴い、2022年度まで延長して実施した。個人蔵資料の調査研究を進め、その成果を『元奈良町惣年寄清水家資料調査報告書』として公刊した。これは、江戸時代に奈良町惣年寄を世襲した清水家が所蔵する資料の調査報告書である。この調査研究により、清水家は室町時代には南山城の祝園の地侍的な存在だったこと、16世紀後期に河内守護畠山氏の被官となっていること、その後織田信長に仕えたこと、豊臣政権期に奈良に居住し、連歌などの文化面で活躍したこと、17世紀半ば以降、町人として惣年寄を世襲したこと、江戸時代中後期には奈良晒し・算術など、奈良の産業・学問振興に関わっていたことなどが明らかとなった。また織田家の武将などが清水家にあてた書状が50通近くも確認され、信長の石山本願寺攻め関係資料など、戦国・織豊期の政治史研究に有用な資料紹介をおこなうことができた。東大寺所蔵の新修東大寺文書聖教は、その一部である中村純一寄贈文書について、元禄年間と明治初年の日記の翻刻作業を進めた。江戸時代の興福寺承仕の仕事や、明治初年の奈良の状況が読み取れる。また、上記の東大寺所蔵中村純一寄贈文書と元来は一体だった個人蔵資料を調査した。その結果、当該史料は2020年に奈良文化財研究所に寄贈された。興福寺承仕関係資料である。江戸時代後期から明治維新後にかけての詳細が判明する。さらには近代、日露戦争直後に満州の大連に商社を構えたこと、当該時期の大連での商売の様子などを確認しつつある。
