本研究は、2000年代以降に活発化した企業のCSR活動としての森林保全活動を契機として生じた「企業と森林または農山村地域との新たな関係性」に着目し、こうした取組が地域観光の発展に与える影響について明らかにしようとするものである。2022年度は、近年特に注目されている森林空間を活用した健康事業の推進を通じた都市部企業と農山村地域との関係およびその地域観光への影響について、兵庫県宍粟市を事例に現地調査を実施した。調査結果：当地は1990年代から林業振興とともに森林資源を活かした交流事業にも取り組んできた。2014年頃から、リピータ獲得策の一環として企業の健康経営ニーズに着目した取組を模索し始め、2015年に森林セラピー基地の認定を受け、2016年から本格的にスタートした。プログラム造成やガイド養成に注力し、社員研修等を受け入れはじめたが、当初「メンタルヘルス」に特化していたことが利用者拡大の支障となり、また、プログラムレベルの不十分さなどが課題として顕在化した。そのため、新たなターゲット層の開発、プログラムの多様化を目指し、2021年度から『森林サービス産業』モデル事業に取り組むことになった。専門家のアドバイスの下、E-bikeを活用したプログラムを新たに開発し、モニターツアーにおいて幸福度が向上するとのエビデンスも取得でき、広報に活用することで新たな企業との連携の他、一般の利用客も獲得するなど一定の成果が見られている。一方で、ガイドの減少と高齢化により、新たなガイドの確保・育成が急務となっているが、地域の発酵文化を活かした6次産業化の取組などを通じた移住促進施策との連携を検討し、既に地域おこし協力隊員を誘致するなどの取組が実行されている。本事例からは企業との連携を目標に置くことで地域観光のコンテンツの高度化につながり、さらに一般の利用者の増加にもつながり得ることが示唆される。
