项目摘要

前年度の研究で、ヘテロトピアの特徴はひとつの空間の中にさまざまな(ときには相反する)価値観を並置することを可能にし、その空間内で新たなネットワークが形成される点である、と論じた。今年度はネオ・ヴィクトリアン文学作品のテクスト分析を通して、現代の女性作家たちはジェンダー、セクシュアリティのあり方についてどのような問いを投げかけているのかを、家庭内だけでなく、監獄、精神病院、公園など家庭外の場面での風景描写、心理描写を分析することで検証した。また、女性がどのような状況でヘテロトピア的空間を作り出し、男性優位主義的、家父長的、あるいは異性規範的な抑圧から自らを解放し、新たな自己像を確立しようとしているかを、抑圧されている様子の描写と比較し分析することで、ネオ・ヴィクトリアン小説におけるヘテロトピアの意義を論じた。具体的には、イギリスの現代作家サラ・モスの小説Signs for Lost Children(2015)において精神疾患を持つ女性向けの保護施設がへテロトピアとしてどのように機能しているのか、またその空間が主人公アリーの女性としてのアイデンティティとどのような関連があるかを考察した。2022年11月19日に早稲田大学で開催された日本ヴィクトリア朝文化研究学会第22回全国大会において研究成果を発表し、先生方から貴重なフィードバックを得ることができた。また、サラ・ウォーターズの小説Affinity(1999)の舞台となる監獄におけるへテロトピア的空間の役割についても、博士論文の内容を発展させて考察を深めた。この研究結果は2023年3月に同志社大学グローバル・コニュニケーション学会が発行する査読付紀要『コミュニカーレ』第12号に論文として掲載された。
