项目摘要

本研究課題の主たる目的は、言語理解中に行われる事象のメンタルシミュレーションの様式に、発達段階や母語、背景文化による違いが存在するかどうかを実証的に明らかにすることである。この目的の達成のため、主な研究として、本年度は幼児（6-10歳）を対象に、文-絵一致選択課題を用いた実験を実施した。この実験では、対象児に、「〇〇は今、にんじんを切っているところです」のような文を読み聞かせ、その後4つのイラストの中から文の内容と一致する絵を選択させた。文中の主語（〇〇）には対象児の名前（xxちゃん）または動物名（例：うさぎさん）であり、4つのイラストには文中の行為（にんじんを切る）を行為者の視点から描写した絵と、観察者の視点から描写した絵の両方が必ず含まれていた。分析の結果、対象児は、先行して呈示される文の主語によらず、行為者視点から描写された絵を好んで選択することが示された。この結果から幼児は、言語理解において、文の主語にかかわらずある程度一貫して行為者の視点を取得しつつメンタルシミュレーションを行っていることが示唆される。このような傾向は、申請者らの先行研究においてみられた、行為者よりも観察者の視点からメンタルシミュレーションを行いやすい成人（日本人）の傾向と対照的であり、言語理解におけるメンタルシミュレーションの様式の発達的変化の存在を伺わせる重要な知見である。具体的には、自己中心的に物事を捉える幼児期の認知的特徴が、メンタルシミュレーションにおける視点取得にも反映され、自己中心性を脱していく（脱中心化）過程でメンタルシミュレーションも自己中心的（行為者視点選好）なものからより客観的（観察者視点選好）なものへと発達的変化を遂げるものと考えられる。この仮説は本研究で当初から予測していたものでもあり、その妥当性を検証できた点で有意義な研究を遂行することができた。
