本研究は、外国語語彙を学習する際に生じる文脈プライミング現象に着目し、より幅広い熟達度の学習者を対象とした汎用性の高い語彙学習プログラムを開発することを目的としている。文脈プライミング現象とは、語彙学習の際に読んだ例文の情報を再度提示するとその語彙の記憶が心内で活性化することを指す。上記の研究目的を達成するため、前年度に構想した様々な学習活動について、本年度は実際に英語学習者に参加してもらい試行する取り組みを行った。学習活動の候補はいずれも2017～2020年度に実施した研究（若手研究B，17K13496）において提案した文脈想起指導（または文脈指導教示; Hasegawa, 2021）を応用したものである。従来の文脈想起指導では学習者にとって初見の例文を用いていたため、英語熟達度が低い学習者にはやや負荷が高く、中級程度以上の熟達度をもつ学習者ほどの効果がみられなかった。そこで、当初の計画通り、本年度は学習素材をさらにシンプルにした形で文脈想起指導を行うという取り組みを試行した（現在もデータを収集中）。また、英文を読むことを中心とした活動だけでなく、聞くことや書くことを中心とした活動の中に文脈想起指導を組み込むことができる可能性もあり、予備的な検証実践から得られたデータを分析している。今年度は、これまでに実施した研究の成果を理論的な観点から総合的に考察し、全国英語教育学会の口頭発表において学外の研究者と意見交換を行うことができた。また、語彙学習方法と英語学習者の熟達度の関連性についての論文執筆にも着手した。今後は、中学校や高等学校の英語授業の中で無理なく実践できる語彙学習プログラムを完成させるため、教科書本文の導入、文法事項の導入、内容理解に基づく対話活動、自己表現のための活動などの場面において文脈想起指導を応用した学習活動がどのように活用できるかを検討していく必要がある。
