２年次においても前半は新型コロナウイルス感染危機の継続により、渡航調査が難しいことが予想された。そのため昨年度に引き続き、在宅及び研究室でできる文献調査を重ねつつ、渡航を伴わない代替的な遠隔調査を積極的に開発し、利用した。具体的には、米国ニューヨーク州にあるシラキューズ大学、Charles Rangelセンター、およびTamimentライブラリーが所蔵する史料に着目し、冷戦後においても膠着する米・キューバ関係の打開を模索した連邦議員や平和運動家たちの史料の収集を行った。その際、最初は現地のアーキヴィストが提供する複写サービスを利用したが、価値が高いと判断したものについては、紹介された現地の委託業務事業者と契約を結ぶことによって、実際に渡航する際に発生する見込みの費用よりも低いコストで史料の収集を進めることが可能になった。また、並行してこれまで開示請求していた大統領史料館の機密解除史料の入手の際にも複写サービスを積極的に活用した。アメリカ政治外交史やキューバ現代史などに関連する専門書も購入・読解・分析し、冷戦期と冷戦後の米・キューバ研究の連続性の検証を進めている。これについては別の科研費（17K18190）の研究成果と合わせ、日本アメリカ学会における研究成果の発表を行った。さらに、国際関係史のトップ・ジャーナルである海外学術誌Diplomatic Historyで査読論文を発表し、冷戦期に発生した移民危機（1980年マリエル危機）に続き、なぜ冷戦終結後にも同様の移民危機が発生したのかを議論した。こうした活動を進める上で、バイアウト制度を活用し、半期１コマ分の授業の時間を研究のために確保できたこともあった。新しい制度の創設に感謝しつつ、さらに積極的に利用ができることを願っている。
