本国際共同研究は、多文化社会であるイギリスの美術教育における文化的多様性について特にアンチレイシズムの視座から調査し、異なる人種・民族・宗教・アイデンティティなどをめぐる多様な文化の尊重・包摂が美術教育の中でどのように実現されようとしているのか、フィールドワークを核とした民族誌学的手法による調査から明らかにすることを目的とする。この研究目的は、1.美術教育の文化的多様性をめぐる研究・教育実践の包括的な動向把握、2.多様な文化を美術教育に反映させた実践事例の収集、3.美術教育実践と文化的多様性との関係性の理論化、以上の3つの段階を踏んで達成する。本年度末（1月末）から渡英し、Institute of Education（UCL）のDepartment of Culture, Communication and MediaにHonorary Senior Research Fellowとして滞在している。渡航後の数ヶ月は、上記の研究プロセスの1.に相当する、海外共同研究者とのミーティングや文献調査、博物館・美術館・ギャラリーでの研究資料収集を中心に進めてきた。その過程で、イギリスにおけるアンチレイシズム的美術教育の実践および研究は、研究開始前の予想よりも遥かに進展していることがわかってきた。例えば、美術教育における人種と包括性に関する「Visualise」プロジェクトが、The Runnymede Trust（レイシズム研究などを担うシンクタンク）とFreelands Foundation（英国内の美術／美術教育の発展を目指す財団）によって現在進行中である。このプロジェクトは美術教育における多様性に関する全国調査を含んでおり、本研究と重なる部分も多い。共同研究者がアドバイザーとして参画している同調査の動向を注視しながら、本研究の参考としての活用の可能性も探っているところである。
