初年度については，田河水泡作品である『目玉のチビちゃん』と『のらくろ』(雑誌連載版および書籍収録版の両方) を映画技法の観点から調査・分析をおこなった。『目玉のチビちゃん』については，冒頭のタイトルに「目玉のチビちゃん出演」といった映画のオープニング・タイトルを模した部分があるものの，1915年代までに完成されていた古典的ハリウッド映画で用いられていた映画技法を漫画に取り込んだものは，いくつかの例外を除けば，ほぼ見いだすことができず，いわゆる「初期映画」的な技法に対応する技法が使用されていた。また，視点を固定したままではあるものの，複数コマを用いて映画で言うところの1シーンを描写する箇所を見出すことができ，呉智英の言う1コマ＝1シーンという一般化がこの時点ですでに崩れていることが確認できた。『のらくろ』についても同様であり，カメラの運動をマンガ的に実現したコマ割りが散見されるものの，『目玉のチビちゃん』と同様にほとんど1915年以前の映画技法を想定することで説明可能であることが明らかになった。また，明らかに空間的なコンティニュイティが見られないコマ割りも観察でき，この意味でも初期映画的である。さらに，1920年代における日本の映画受容状況を調査していくなかで，1929年に連載開始された『目玉のチビちゃん』，1931年に連載開始された『のらくろ』に古典的ハリウッド映画の技法がほとんど見られないことは，1920年代における日本の児童の映画体験およびアメリカ・アニメーション作品を経由してのスラップスティック作品からの影響が重要であったという暫定的な分析結果を得た。現在，この分析結果のとりまとめを報告すべく，論文を作成している。
