絵金（絵師金蔵）は、幕末の狩野派で学んだ土佐の絵師である。祭礼において屋外で展示を行うという独自の様式を確立した絵金やその弟子達の「芝居絵屏風」が開帳される高知県各地の夏祭りは、全国的にも稀有な祭りとして注目されている。しかし、昭和8年を最後に新しい芝居絵屏風は制作されず、損傷の激しい芝居絵屏風を修理できないまま、祭礼そのものを取り止めた地区もある。その一方で絵金らの資料には芝居絵屏風になされていない小下図などの構想段階の作品群が数多く残されている。そこで本研究では未発掘の絵金らの小下図などを分析した上で、当時の彩色技法を使った新しい芝居絵屏風の制作を行う。高知の各地の祭礼で展示される芝居絵屏風は慢性的な地域文化の継承者の減少や高齢化に加え、令和2年度からは新型コロナウイルスの影響により、祭礼が相次いで中止になった。これまでの調査では芝居絵屏風の開帳を一度でも取り止めると、そこから復活する事例は皆無であり、祭礼自体の存続も含めた文化の継承が危ぶまれている。以上を踏まえ、本研究ではこれまで注目されてこなかった下図を基に、令和の時代に新たな芝居絵屏風の制作を行うと共に、その方法を展覧会や論文などを通して広く発表し、一過性の研究ではなく次に制作を行う際の拠り所となることを目的としている。芝居絵屏風は基本的に既存のものを継承させることが精一杯で、新しく描くという発想自体がなかった。本研究のように画家の経験と自然科学的な客観性に基づいて行う手法で芝居絵屏風を制作した事例はなく、独自性があると考えられる。また、郷土史・美術史研究との連携し、彩色されていない下図を基に芝居絵屏風を制作することは全く新しい視点からの学際的な研究である。2022年度の成果として、研究対象である芝居絵屏風「伽羅先代萩 御殿」を想定復元した屏風の制作について、特に色材の分析と描画方法に関わるポスター発表を行った。

The above mentioned research is focused on the basic principles of the current era, and the new methods of screen production are used in exhibitions and papers.
