本研究の目的は、古態の箏(長磯箏・五八箏)の楽器に関する調査と古態の箏を使用した演奏表現の可能性を明らかとすることである。令和4年度は、(1)基礎的研究と仮説の構築として古態の箏についての関連資料を収集し、それらの分析、検討を通して、課題解決のための方法・内容の理論的枠組みを仮説的に構築すること、(2)楽器製作者への調査として箏製作者へのインタビューおよび箏製作者から受けた情報の整理、(3)古態の箏について、フィールドワークによって対象となる古態の箏(長磯箏・五八箏)の収集と採寸の実施、(4)演奏家へのインタビューを通した情報収集、(5)録音に残っている古態の音色についての調査として、昭和初期以前のSP盤等に残っている録音を中心に調査し、かつての古態の箏による演奏から古態の箏の音色についての音色の定義、(6)以上をもとに1年次のまとめ情報・意見交換の場としてシンポジウムを開催し、外部および研究協力者である実演家や楽器製作者に発展的な研究のための示唆を得る計画であった。今年度はこのうち(1)(3)(4)(5)を実施し(2)(6)については感染症対策を十分取ることができないため見送った。(1)に関して、主に京都圏の明治期以降の楽器店目録を収集・調査し「長磯箏」の名称由来を調査した。(3)に関しては、個人蔵および博物館所蔵の古態の箏を調査することができた。(4)に関しては、主に京都系演奏家について実施した。(5)に関して、SPレコードを収集し音色についての情報収集にとどまった。この他に、古態の箏の修理および付属品の現在の調達状況について調査を行なった。古態の箏の演奏に用いられる「箏爪(かつて京流と呼ばれたもの)」、「飾り房」、「弦(色付き)」については今日でも同等品を製作可能であることが判明した一方で、「箏本体の装飾（木象嵌風の飾り)」に関しては修理をできる職人はいないことを確認した。
