本年度は、中世後期における海峡横断的な文学圏の存在を具体的に示す資料のひとつとして、「ペンシルヴァニア詩歌集」(Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania, Codex 902写本)を研究対象として選び、その分析を進めた。当初は渡米し、現地の図書館で写本を精査する予定であったが、諸般の事情で渡航の計画を立てることが困難であったため、ウェブ上で公開されている写本の画像を参照しながら分析を進めた。具体的な研究内容としては、まず「詩歌集」に含まれる個々の定型詩の解釈と形式的な側面の分析を行なうとともに、詩の選定基準や「詩歌集」全体の構成、編纂方針に関する調査を進め、本書がいかなる詩的共同体を想定して編まれたものであるかを考察した。また、「詩歌集」の編纂とほぼ同時期に書かれたユスターシュ・デシャンの作詩法に関する著作L’Art de dictierの内容を分析し、当時の詩人がバラードやロンドーなどの詩形をどのように捉えていたのかを確認した。さらにL’Art de dictierが依拠する先行作品を調査し、デシャンの詩観を形作った詩論や音楽論の伝統に対する理解を深めた。「詩歌集」に含まれる定型詩を解釈するうえでは、「没個性的」という表面上の印象に惑わされることなく分析を進めるため、「創造的引用」という概念を巧みに用いて音楽論の見地から百年戦争期のフランスの宮廷詩やそれに付随する楽曲の特徴を解明したYolanda PlumleyやArdis Butterfieldの研究を参照した。さらに、来年度の研究を若干前倒しする形で、ジョン・ガワーの仏語によるバラード連作『50篇のバラード』(Cinkante Balades)の一部を分析し、その結果を論考にまとめた。
