研究１年目である令和４年度は以下の３項目に対する調査研究を実施した。１）複数の学年にまたがる高等専門学校在籍学生に対するリスニング・写真描写問題の実施、２）複数の学年にまたがる高等専門学校在籍学生に対する語彙サイズ測定テストの実施、そして３）上記各調査結果の集計・分析、である。まず、調査協力者が受験したTOEICテストリスニングスコア、リーディングスコア、そしてトータルスコアに基づいて英語能力群を作成した。次に、研究結果の再現性を確保するため、TOEICテスト公式問題集を用いてリスニング・写真描写問題を実施し、各調査参加者の取得した得点と属する英語能力群とに基づいて結果を検討した。結果として、研究代表者が過去に実施した調査結果と類似した傾向を示していることから、研究結果は安定していると判断している。本研究においては、新たに調査協力者の語彙力を語彙サイズ測定テストに基づく得点を指標として用いることとした。日本における EFL 語彙サイズテストとして広く普及している望月（1998）の「日本人英語学習者のための語彙サイズテスト」からの推定値を指標として採用するべく実施した 。次に、ａ）TOEICリスニングスコアに基づく能力群、ｂ）リスニング・写真描写問題の得点、そしてｃ）語彙サイズ測定テストに基づいて推定される語彙サイズの関係性、を調査した。本件については、研究手法をどのようにするべきかに結論を導き出せずにいる。最後に、リスニング・写真描写問題において使用されている語彙と、各種語彙表並びに語彙サイズ測定テストにおいて使用されている語彙を抽出して、マッチングタスクを実施し、結果を検討している。
