1895年から1908年まで150号刊行された、黒住教機関誌『国の教』を7年間かけて、研究分担者の谷川穣氏とともに「『国の教』記事目録」を作成し、黒住教学院ホームページでオープンアクセスとして公開した（https://kurozumikyo.com/gakuin/kuninooshie.html）。黒住教は、教派神道の中でもっとも早く独立し、教義の体系化を果たし、その機関誌『国の教』は各界著名人の寄稿により、明治前期にすでに総合雑誌の体をなす。今後、黒住教の研究に大きく貢献すると思われる。また『人文学報』120号・特集号「近代京都と文化」を編集し刊行した。民芸やキリシタン布教、幕末・維新期の畿内の風聞など、水準の高い論考を掲載することができた。金光教の遊廓布教については、各地の教会資料を検討するとともに、戦前期の歌舞伎・映画関係者の信仰の実態について調査をすすめている。また人文科学研究所の共同研究「近代日本の宗教と文化」研究班（高木班長）で、2022年度に10回の共同研究会を開催した。歴史学・映画史・宗教史・音楽史・美術工芸史などの学際的な研究を進めている。共同研究では、民衆宗教を含め、当該テーマについて考察を深めているが、たとえば辺境の地である弘前の「賊軍」士族によるキリスト教や洋楽受容が先端であったおもしろさや、金光教の自主制作の映画・芝居による字も読めない民衆布教の実態などを議論し深めている。天皇制と宗教の問題は、本研究の重要な柱であるが、2022年9月には今尾文昭氏の案内で百舌鳥古墳群のフィールドワークをし世界遺産がかかえる問題や歴史的な変遷を考えた。2023年2月11日には、「近現代天皇制を考える学術集会」をもち研究者・市民、110名の参加者を得た。
